Penguin Random House is seeking a Senior Designer/Associate Art Director to join the award-winning Knopf art department. Responsible for designing hardcover jackets, the designer will work closely with the editorial, managing editorial and production departments to create eye-catching, cutting edge covers for world class books. This is a rare and amazing opportunity to join an innovative art department and work with the renowned titles of Knopf.

The Role:

• Design award-winning book jackets and covers.

• Work closely and independently with publishers and editors on cover designs from concept through approval.

• Prepare mechanical files for production and review and correct proofs.

• Strict adherence to schedules and the flexibility to respond critiques in a timely manner.

• Partner with art directors and communicate progress on projects.

• Consult with photographers, illustrators, and photo researchers.

• Develop ideas that extend the reach of the cover design and Knopf brand into the social media landscape.

The Essentials:

• A strong history in the field of book cover design.

• Candidates for Senior Designer will have a minimum of 4 years design experience while candidates for Associate Art Director will have a minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Senior Designer.

• The ability to design conceptual and envelope-pushing hardcover jackets.

• Proficient knowledge of the MAC platform and Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Acrobat).

• Able to apply organizational methods and strategies to meet deadlines.

• Timely follow-up skills with the design team and other departments and able to coordinate and review multiple projects in a fast-paced and detailed-focused environment

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

• Interest in working on a wide variety of high quality fiction and non-fiction titles

The salary range for Senior Designer is $70,000 – $75,000 and for Associate Art Director is $80,000 - $85,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
