Contracts Assistant - Subsidiary Rights

The Contracts Department at Penguin Random House is looking for a detail-oriented individual to join their contracts team as a Subsidiary Rights Contracts Assistant. The Assistant will liaise with agencies and publishers around the world to draft and process foreign and domestic rights contracts for the Penguin Young Readers and Random House Children's Books groups.

This is an exciting opportunity to expand your knowledge of contracts and rights licensing in the book publishing industry, and to work with a diverse range of children's and young adult titles.

Specific responsibilities include:

• Supporting the Associate Contracts Manager with drafting, proofreading, and processing domestic and foreign contracts.

• Collaborating closely with Subsidiary Rights team members who sell book rights including, translation, book club, large print, reprint, serial, and audio.

• Assisting publishers and foreign subagents regarding contract details and queries.

• Working with colleagues in the author contracts and royalties departments.

• Maintaining and updating contract records in PRH's Rights Management System. Using the Rights Management System to prepare and review monthly contract status reports and other reporting as needed.

• Providing administrative support by managing, routing, and following up on contract agreements.

• Researching rights, and contract terms and special language from author agreements.

• Working on special projects as needed.

• 4 year college degree or equivalent work experience

• Prior office experience a plus

• Interest in contracts and/or subsidiary rights

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills

• Excellent proofreading skills

• Superb attention to detail and organizational skills

• Ability to multitask & prioritize in a deadline driven environment

• Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
