Penguin Random House Analyst, Consumer Insights - (Open to Remote) in New York, New York

If so, you might be the perfect candidate for the Analyst, Consumer Insights role at Penguin Random House. The Penguin Random House Consumer Insights team is looking for candidates with an interest in community-based research, strong problem-solving skills, and a talent for synthesizing different kinds of data to answer business questions.

The Analyst will primarily support the management of an in-house research community panel, including overseeing data collection and ensuring data quality, as well as designing, launching, and managing studies that explore the preferences, motivations, and behaviors of book readers. Day-to-day work will also include analyzing data from across datasets, with a focus on unstructured survey and social media data, and keyword search data. The position reports directly to the Senior Manager for Community Research and will work closely with colleagues across the Consumer Insights team.

What you’ll do:

• Manage a monthly tracker survey to the in-house panel from launch, programming through deployment

• Develop omnibus questions for the monthly tracker survey

• Support the recruitment, engagement, and retention of panel members, ensuring a diverse representation of perspectives and book reader experiences

• Manage quarterly sweepstakes to the in-house panel

• Track key metrics for the in-house panel (e.g., new panelists, panelist churn, top performing surveys, etc.)

• Create documentation related to use of the in-house panel

• Organize and maintain a panel database

• Design and program surveys and discussion guides

• Analyze survey data, including coding open-ended survey responses

• Interpret and synthesize data from multiple sources, including social media listening tools, keyword research tools, and secondary sources

• Support management of a proprietary market segmentation

• Collaborate with other members of the Consumer Insights team and across publishing divisions to support companywide research needs

We’d like to see:

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant work experience in quantitative consumer research

• Experience in programming surveys, coding data, and reading crosstabs

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word/Excel/Powerpoint

• Strong writing and communication skills

• Proactive and learning mindset, strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with attention to detail and organization

• Ability to synthesize information from varied data sources

• Flexibility and adaptability to changing needs and priorities

These would be a plus:

• Work experience with online research communities and research involving diverse cultures, backgrounds, and perspectives

• Experience in social media/unstructured text-based data analysis

• A background in data analysis/statistics relevant to the study of anthropology, sociology, psychology, or a related field

• Experience with SPSS outputs

• Familiarity with Adobe Analytics

• Familiarity with creating basic prompts for ChatGPT (and other chatbots) and MS Co-Pilot

• Basic SQL knowledge

• Familiarity with Powerbi

The salary range for this position is $65,000 - $73,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
