Ten Speed Press, based in Emeryville, California, is an imprint of the Crown Publishing Group, a division of Penguin Random House, LLC, the world's largest general trade book publisher. Based on the West Coast and one of the most innovative imprints in publishing, Ten Speed was an independent company for decades before becoming part of the Crown Publishing Group in 2009. We produce high-quality, beautifully illustrated books covering food and drink, art instruction and design, photography, gardening, gift, lifestyle advice, graphic art and novels, health and nutrition, career development, and writing. This individual will be responsible for handling approximately 15 titles per year from manuscript to bound book. Specific responsibilities include hiring freelance coders, copy editors, proofreaders, and indexers and directing and reviewing their work; copyediting and proofreading flap copy and marketing materials; creating and maintaining book schedules; performing quality assurance; and working closely with the editorial, design, and production groups to traffic manuscripts through production. Additionally, this individual will share in departmental responsibilities: backing up colleagues, reviewing final materials, and contributing to special projects as needed. A facility with Microsoft Word and electronic copyediting is a must; illustrated book and/or cookbook experience is a plus.

Qualified candidates must have a minimum of four years of trade book experience as a production editor. The ideal candidate is a team player who is flexible, has strong analytical and organizational skills, and is able to efficiently and thoughtfully manage a diverse set of publishing responsibilities and adapt to different work styles and fluid reprioritization.

• Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
