Penguin Random House LLC Jr Financial Analyst, Crown Publishing Group (Open to Remote) in New York, New York

The Crown division of Penguin Random House is seeking a detail-oriented self-starter to join our team as a Junior Financial Analyst. This position will provide support to the finance team in managing and analyzing the day-to-day operations of the division. Specifically, this position will play an active role in monthly reporting and analysis, forecasting and ad hoc analysis for the fast-growing imprints in the Crown Publishing business, including Crown, Currency, Clarkson Potter and Ten Speed Press. This is an excellent opportunity for an innovative and motivated person who is looking to grow and gain experience within a financial team supporting a growing publishing division.

Responsibilities:

• Manage monthly financial closings, including detailed analyses of sales, cost of goods sold, operating expenses, accruals, and title count;

• Create monthly summaries of financial performance and key performance indicators for the Crown and corporate teams;

• Perform quarterly analysis on travel and marketing spend for Crown;

• Assist in preparing formal forecasts for corporate submissions using Anaplan software;

• Generate postmortem analysis of previous acquisitions/publications to help inform editorial decisions;

• Provide analysis to support production staff in making print and reprint decisions;

• Assist marketing staff with updating marketing budgeting systems; and

• Enhance and increase speed of monthly reporting, analysis and business intelligence utilizing software skills such as Microsoft Power BI.

Requirements:

• Strong business and analytical skills, including an understanding of basic financial and accounting principles;

• Strong PC skills, including proficiency with Excel (including vlookups and pivot tables) and PowerPoint;

• Excellent organizational skills, with an ability to multi-task and prioritize;

• Attention to detail and accuracy, ideally combined with an ability to see the big picture;

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with colleagues across all levels and functions;

• Ability to take initiative and to work both independently and as part of a team;

• BS in Accounting/Finance preferred (but will consider candidates from other degree backgrounds with relevant experience and keen interest in the publishing industry);

• Relevant work experience preferred;

• Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerBI, Anaplan, and SAP preferred; and

• Strong interest in the publishing industry and a love for books are strong pluses.

The salary range for this position is $58,000-60,000.All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
