Penguin Random House LLC Director, Sales Marketing in New York, New York

The Crown Publishing Group is seeking a Sales Marketing Director to manage sales initiatives across its two divisions, Crown and Clarkson Potter/Ten Speed Press. The Sales Marketing Director works with publishing and sales to set title goals and priorities for a given span, and to maximize revenue through targeted account-facing strategies.

Operating across an broad-ranging list of fiction and nonfiction titles, the Director is involved in all stages of the publishing process and communicates across all levels and departments. As a key touch point between sales and publishing, the Director deals with queries that arise from either side, particularly as they pertain to the creation and timing of account marketing assets that impact sell-in. The Director also plays a driving role in planning and scheduling seasonal and weekly meetings.

Specific responsibilities include: 

•   Reviewing TIs and working with editorial to ensure that books are positioned to best maximize sales opportunities and merchandising

•  Liaising between sales and publishing to schedule, set agendas, and prepare presentations for weekly and seasonal sales meetings, as well as spearheading follow-up on action items

•  Advising on and ensuring that all sales assets and materials – TIs, Covers, interiors, sell-sheets, platform slides, etc. – are available for reps as they go out to sell a given span

•  Managing the signed and special stock program to drive incremental sales and visibility at accounts for priority titles

•  Spearheading the early reads program for galleys, AREs, and air freights to ensure that we are meeting key deadlines for account promotions 

•  Coordinating drop-ins with publisher, reps, digital team, and managing editorial for all titles that fall outside the standard sell-in cycle

•   Working closely with consumer insights, sales directors, and publishing to highlight backlist opportunities and strategizing on how to best drive consumer awareness

•   Handling exceptions for finished book mailings in collaboration with the warehouse and sales operations

•   Partnering with publishing operations to enhance the tools we use in tandem with sales for easier usability

•   Managing a small team of collaborative, high-performing peers

·        Minimum of 7-10 years sales and/or publishing management experience with a knowledge of account bases ·        Exceptional attention to detail, the ability to prioritize, and strong follow-up skills ·        Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask ·        Strong communication skills, both verbal & written ·        Ability to thrive under pressure and effectively problem solve ·        Collaborative-minded with the inclination to build strong relationships across departments ·        Strong sales analysis and presentation skills ·        Understanding of entire publishing industry and process ·        Avid reader who keeps up with trends and has an abiding interest in current events ·        Solutions-focused when met with challenges and can comfortably adapt to changes

• The position of Sales Marketing Director at Crown is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which will include but not be limited to bookseller mailings, as well as attending in-person Sales Conferences, author events and conventions.

·        Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook

The salary for this position is $90,000-115,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
